Defending champions C.V. Nunes Primary kept their title defence alive yesterday as they joined Charity Primary, Mainstay Lake Primary and Lima Sands Primary in the semi-finals of the Essequibo Zone of the ExxonMobil-powered Future Warriors Tapeball Tournament for Primary Schools.

The opening day of action at the Anna Regina National Stadium saw 16 schools reduced to four after a competitive day of knockout cricket. The semi-finals, third-place playoff and final will be played today at the same venue, with admission free to the public.

C.V. Nunes Primary led the way with a strong all-round performance against Sparta Primary. Their bowlers restricted Sparta to 36-7 from the allotted eight overs before the defending champions reached 37-2 in 4.4 overs to complete an eight-wicket win.
