Chedean Nation played the T20 innings of her life to guide the Guyana Amazon Warriors to their maiden Limacol Women’s Caribbean Premier League title with a dramatic two-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders at Kensington Oval.
Playing only her second match of the season and batting for the first time, the 39-year-old struck an unbeaten 39 from 21 balls as the Warriors successfully chased 146, reaching 149 for eight with three deliveries remaining.
Nation entered at number eight with the Warriors in serious trouble at 71 for six in the 13th over. They still required 74 runs from 46 balls, but she immediately changed the direction of the final with a fearless counterattack that included four sixes.
Captain Chloe Tryon provided valuable support during a match-changing 40-run partnership from 23 deliveries. Tryon scored 32 before Laura Harris bowled her in the 17th over, giving the Knight Riders renewed hope.
The pressure increased when Sheneta Grimmond was dismissed for 10 in the 19th over, leaving the Warriors needing another 16 runs from nine balls.
Nation, however, remained composed. She attacked seamer Shikha Pandey and off-spinner Karishma Ramharack to complete a remarkable comeback and spark celebrations among the Warriors.
The successful chase rescued the Guyanese franchise after its top order struggled against a determined Knight Riders attack. In-form opener Tazmin Brits made 22, while Shemaine Campbelle contributed nine, with five Warriors batters dismissed before the end of the 10th over.
Knight Riders captain Deandra Dottin, Ramharack and Pandey collected two wickets apiece, but they could not prevent Nation from producing one of the most memorable finishing efforts in WCPL history.
Earlier, Dottin won the toss and elected to bat in sunny conditions. Debutant Sushma Verma anchored the innings with 39, while Marizanne Kapp and Pandey provided late runs to lift the Knight Riders to a competitive 145 for six.
Shabnim Ismail claimed two wickets for the Warriors, while Shamilia Connell delivered a disciplined spell of one for 18 from four overs.
The victory ended the Warriors’ long wait for the title. They previously reached the WCPL finals in 2023 and 2025 but fell short on both occasions. Their third appearance proved successful, with Nation emerging as the unlikely hero on the biggest night of the season.
