The Guyana Amazon Warriors will face the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Limacol Women’s Caribbean Premier League final after defeating defending champions Barbados Tridents by seven wickets in today’s playoff match at Kensington Oval.
The result confirmed that new champions will be crowned after the Warriors successfully chased 70, reaching their target with four deliveries remaining in the rain-affected contest.
Overnight rain and early-morning showers delayed the start and reduced the match to eight overs per side under cloudy conditions.
Player of the Match Tazmin Brits led the chase with an unbeaten 35 from 23 balls. She shared a match-winning 51-run partnership from 27 deliveries with Shemaine Campbelle for the second wicket.
The Warriors suffered an early setback when opener Eboni Brathwaite top-edged a delivery from Shawnisha Hector during the opening over. However, Campbelle immediately placed the Tridents under pressure with an attacking 22 from 12 balls.
Left-arm spinner Qiana Joseph eventually had Campbelle caught behind, leaving the Warriors on 54 for two at the end of the fifth over. By then, the required target was firmly within reach.
With one run needed from the final over, Suzie Bates yorked Nadine de Klerk with the opening delivery. Captain Chloe Tryon then ended the contest in style by launching the next ball over midwicket to secure the Warriors’ place in Thursday’s final.
Earlier, Tryon won the toss and elected to bowl, with the defending champions struggling to build momentum.
Joseph found scoring difficult against the pace of Shabnim Ismail and Shamilia Connell and was tactically retired after making three from 12 balls.
Hayley Matthews attempted to lift the scoring rate, cutting Connell for four from her first delivery. However, she was run out in the sixth over while attempting a second run.
Maddy Green provided the late acceleration with an unbeaten 30 from 16 deliveries, helping the Tridents reach 69 for four from their eight overs.
Erin Burns was the Warriors’ most economical bowler, finishing with one wicket for 11 runs from her two overs.
The Warriors will now attempt to capture their first WCPL title when they meet the Knight Riders in Thursday’s championship match.
