John, Cutting and 2025 silver medallist Newton lead Guyana squad for Caribbean Championships

Briton John

National champions Briton John and Ajani Cutting, along with returning Caribbean silver medallist Aaron Newton, will lead Guyana’s challenge at the 2026 Caribbean Elite and Under-23 Road Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic.

The Guyana Cycling Federation has confirmed a nine-rider squad for the regional event, which runs from October 9 to 12. The Individual Time Trial will be contested on October 10 before the Individual Road Race takes centre stage on October 11.

John, Guyana’s current road race national champion, has been selected alongside Alex Mendes, Andre Greene, Segun Hubbard and Devendra Sahadeo for the Elite division.

Aaron Newton won a silver medal in the U23 Individual Time Trial in 2025 and will be hoping to go one better.

The Under-23 team comprises national champion Cutting, Newton, Sidwell Sandy and Mark Lewis.

Newton returns to the Caribbean Championships after producing Guyana’s best result at the 2025 staging in Belize City, where he claimed silver in the Men’s Under-23 Individual Time Trial.

That performance will make him one of the Guyanese riders to watch in the race against the clock when competition begins in the Dominican Republic.

John also carries strong regional form into this year’s championships after finishing inside the top 10 in both Elite events in Belize. He placed eighth in the Individual Time Trial before securing 10th in the 164.4-kilometre road race against a large field featuring some of the Caribbean’s leading riders.

This year’s squad also gives Cutting another opportunity to test himself at regional level after establishing himself as Guyana’s national Under-23 champion.

Ajani Cutting will have an opportunity to test himself at the regional level after establishing himself as Guyana’s national Under-23 champion.

With a mixture of national champions, returning competitors and emerging riders, Guyana will field representation in both the Elite and Under-23 categories as the country’s cyclists pursue strong results over the two main championship events.
