Guyana maintained their perfect start to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Challenge Series with a convincing 4-1 victory over Anguilla yesterday in their second Tier II Group C match in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Aaron Christopher Vasconcellos led the young Golden Jaguars with two first-half goals, while Dane Level Vancooten and Asher McIntyre also found the net. The result moved Guyana to six points from two matches and kept them at the top of the group with a goal difference of plus 10.

Vasconcellos opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the eighth minute before completing his brace in the 24th with a composed finish from a cross.

Anguilla reduced the deficit in the 31st minute when Jacob Fleming collected a loose ball and fired into the roof of the net. However, Guyana quickly regained their two-goal advantage through Vancooten, who converted another penalty in the 35th minute to give his side a 3-1 lead at half-time.

McIntyre completed the scoring in the 56th minute to seal Guyana’s second successive victory. Winger Dontay Kowlessar was later named Player of the Match following an impressive performance.

The young Golden Jaguars had opened their campaign with an 8-1 victory over Montserrat, giving them 12 goals from their first two outings.

The Bahamas are second in the group, also with six points from two wins, but trail Guyana on goal difference. Anguilla and Montserrat remain without a point after two matches.

Guyana will have a rest day today before facing the Bahamas in their third and final group match tomorrow  morning. The encounter will determine the winner of Group C.
