…squad announcement offers little insight
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has named a 24-man squad for the 2026/2027 Concacaf Nations League, but the announcement has again come without a press conference to explain selection decisions and outline preparations for the campaign.
Head coach Marco Bonofiglio’s Golden Jaguars will open their League B, Group A campaign against Puerto Rico on September 24 at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The squad includes defender Imani Barker, listed with Sumgayit PFC, alongside attacking options Omari Glasgow, Isaiah Jones, Osaze DeRosario and Deon Moore. The federation’s accompanying statement offered broad ambitions for the team but little detail about individual selections or the coaching staff’s plans.
The continued absence of press conferences ahead of squad announcements and international assignments leaves no such opportunity for journalists to question officials directly about player availability, preparations and expectations.
In announcing the team via their social media platforms, the GFF said the Golden Jaguars were focused on delivering competitive performances, strengthening Guyana’s regional presence and representing the country with pride.
Bonofiglio’s squad comprises three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders and eight forwards. Nine players are listed with Slingerz FC, giving the club the largest representation in the group.
Slingerz defenders Kvist Paul, Leo Lovell and Raushan Ritch join midfielders Curtez Kellman, Darron Niles and Solomon Austin, while Bryan Wharton, Kelsey Benjamin and Neron Barrow have been selected among the forwards.
Guyana Defence Force’s Emmanuel Lewis and Police’s Akel Clarke are among the three goalkeepers, alongside Quillan Roberts of Western Suburbs FC.
The other defensive selections are Jalen Jones of Dover Athletic FC, Liam Gordon of Port Vale FC, Terence Vancooten of Stevenage FC and Barker.
In midfield, Nathan Ferguson of Hornchurch FC, Nathan Moriah-Welsh of Mansfield Town FC and Elliot Bonds of Salford FC complete the six-man department.
The forward group also includes Glasgow, listed with Chicago Fire FC; Isaiah Jones of Luton Town FC; DeRosario of Seattle Sounders FC; Enoch George of SVV Scheveningen; and Moore of Torquay United FC.
Guyana will compete against Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and Dominica in Group A. League B features 16 teams across four groups, with each side meeting its three opponents twice. The four group winners will advance to the League B Championship.
Following the Puerto Rico opener, the Golden Jaguars will face the Cayman Islands at Windsor Park on September 27 at 3:00 p.m. They will then travel to the Estadio Centroamericano Juan Figueroa Freyre in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, for consecutive matches against Dominica on October 1 at 5:00 p.m. and October 4 at 3:00 p.m.
