Western Tigers have been fined $20,000 over their responsibility to control player Nyron Barrow, who has also received a six-match suspension following misconduct in the U17 Youth Ensemble Competition.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) announced the penalties on September 26, a week after the club’s September 19 fixture against Fruta Conquerors.
The Federation said the club’s fine related to its responsibility to adequately restrain and control Barrow. His ban extends across GFF-sanctioned competitive fixtures and will remain in effect until all six matches have been served.
The disciplinary action followed a review of the official referee’s report and the circumstances of the incident. According to the GFF, Barrow showed dissent towards match officials and then engaged in reckless conduct after being sent off.
The Federation judged the conduct to be a serious breach of its expected standards of behaviour, including discipline, respect and sportsmanship.
Alongside the sanctions, the GFF reminded clubs and team officials of their responsibility to uphold fair play and appropriate conduct throughout its competitions. Players were also reminded that respect for officials, opponents and the regulations governing football remains central to the game’s integrity.
The Federation said continued enforcement of its disciplinary rules would help maintain a safe, respectful and professionally managed environment for football.
