Captain Lionel Holder scored a hat-trick as the Guyana Police Falcons Rugby Club defeated MADA 7s of Martinique 29-0 to secure third place in the Elite Men’s division at the St Lucia Carnival 7s.

The Falcons entered the playoff determined to respond after narrowly missing out on the final, having played much of their semifinal with six men following an early yellow card.

Holder quickly placed the Falcons in control with a powerful run down the sideline for the opening try. He crossed the try line again shortly after to give his team a 10-0 lead.

Tyresse Prescod added another try after using a clean left-foot step to beat his defender. Prescod converted his own score as the Falcons carried a 17-0 advantage into halftime.

The Martinique-based side increased the pressure after the restart, but the Falcons produced a disciplined defensive effort and kept their opponents scoreless.

Holder completed his hat-trick by cutting through the MADA defence, while co-captain Godfrey Broomes finished the scoring with a try under the posts. Broomes successfully converted to complete the 29-point victory.

The Falcons also enjoyed success through players representing other teams at the tournament. Andrew Hall, Jaden Dipchand, Osbert Robinson and Ronaldo Griffith helped the St Lucia Rogues win the Plate final and secure fifth place.

In the women’s competition, several Falcons players featured for Blue Ice and Blue Flame. Blue Ice won the gold medal, while Guyana’s Jelena Shepherd earned the Most Valuable Player award.

Eight teams contested the Elite Men’s division, with clubs representing Martinique, Canada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana and the United States. The 2026 tournament marked the Guyana Police Falcons’ third appearance at the event.
