Guyana’s triple CAC Games gold medallist and national record holder Raekwon Noel has been assured of continued government and Guyana Olympic Association support as he works towards competing for a medal at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Noel met with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. and Minister within the Ministry Steven Jacobs yesterday afternoon, one day after similar commitments were made during a welcome ceremony at the airport.

Accompanied by his parents, Noel updated the ministers on the progress of his swimming career and outlined the assistance needed to continue his development ahead of LA 2028.

The national swimmer, who is studying at Indiana University in the United States, has emerged as one of Guyana’s leading Olympic prospects after winning three gold medals and breaking three CAC Games and a national record in Santo Domingo.

Ramson and Jacobs reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting Noel’s Olympic ambitions, telling the young swimmer, “We believe in you.”

The ministers said the support reflects the commitment of President Irfaan Ali and the wider country to giving Noel the best possible opportunity to succeed on the international stage.

Assistance through the National Sports Commission will continue, while the Guyana Olympic Association is also expected to increase its investment as part of a coordinated development programme for the swimmer.

The partnership is expected to cover Noel’s preparation, participation in selected international meets and attendance at strategic training camps along the pathway to the Olympics.

Officials also committed to maintaining regular communication with Noel and his team to ensure that his training and competition needs are addressed.

Noel’s parents thanked Ramson and Jacobs for facilitating the meeting and providing assurances that a structured pathway would be created to support their son’s pursuit of Olympic success.

The engagement followed Noel’s return to Guyana on Sunday, when government and sports officials welcomed him home and pledged greater assistance following his historic performances at the CAC Games.
