Young footballers across Guyana will have increased opportunities to get involved in the sport this month as the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Guyana Beverages Inc. prepare to roll out the fourth edition of the Kool Kidz Football Festival nationwide.

The grassroots programme will reach boys and girls ages six to 11 through all nine of the GFF’s Regional Football Associations, with five days of football activities planned in each region through the end of August.

The initiative is designed to give children positive early experiences with football while creating a pathway for greater participation in the sport at the community level.

As preparations continue, the nine Regional Football Associations have each been supplied with new football equipment for use during their respective festivals. Guyana Beverages Inc. has also provided cases of Kool Kidz beverages to support the activities.

The nationwide structure represents a continuation of the festival’s growth since its introduction, with the GFF using the programme to bring football directly to communities rather than limiting grassroots development to traditional football centres.

Organisers are placing emphasis on making the sessions fun and inclusive, allowing children to learn and enjoy the sport in an environment suited to their age and stage of development.

Safeguarding and child protection will also form part of the programme, with safeguarding officers incorporated into festival activities to help protect the welfare of participating boys and girls.

The festival is now in its fourth year and forms part of efforts to strengthen the foundation of football development by increasing participation among the country’s youngest players.

The GFF also thanked Guyana Beverages Inc. for its continued investment in the initiative and support for grassroots football.

With activities spread across nine associations and five playing days scheduled in each region, the Kool Kidz Football Festival is expected to provide thousands of opportunities for youngsters to experience the game and potentially begin their football journey.
