The youth-led We The People movement yesterday staged another demonstration outside the Office of the President, renewing its call for the sunken MV Barima to be raised.
The turnout was smaller than the previous demonstration, but members of the movement remained resolute in demanding that the vessel be recovered and that answers be provided over the July 18 tragedy, which claimed 73 lives.
The demonstrators maintained that raising the Barima is essential to establishing what happened in the moments leading up to and during the sinking and could provide evidence crucial to ongoing efforts to determine the cause of the disaster.
The group also continued to demand accountability from the authorities over the tragedy, with protesters standing in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives.
Yesterday’s demonstration formed part of the We The People movement’s continued public campaign for answers and accountability following the disaster.
Despite the smaller turnout, members insisted that their calls would not be silenced, maintaining that the recovery of the Barima remains a key demand.
