Approximately 3.8 kilometres of the Vriesland-Free and Easy road has been asphalted, with the remaining works expected to be completed within two weeks, according to the Ministry of Public Works.
In a Facebook post, the ministry said the rehabilitation followed complaints from residents about the condition of the road and difficulties travelling through the area.
Crusher-run was initially placed along the corridor as a temporary measure. However, following complaints about dust and calls for a smoother surface, the ministry decided to undertake asphalt concrete works, the post said.
The works began at Vriesland and are proceeding towards Free and Easy. They are being carried out by the ministry’s Special Projects Unit.
The ministry said the road is also expected to serve as one of the principal access routes to the Wales housing development being undertaken by the Ministry of Housing.
According to the post, the rehabilitation is intended to improve access for existing residents and accommodate the increased traffic expected from the housing development.
No cost for the works was provided.
