Discoloured water at Mackenzie due to sediment – GWI

The Guyana Water Inc (GWI) yesterday said that discoloured water at Mackenzie, Linden and surrounding areas was due to sediment which entered the distribution system.

“Our technical team immediately investigated the reports and determined that the discoloration was associated with sediment entering the distribution system, which temporarily affected the appearance of the water supplied to some customers.

Corrective measures were immediately implemented, including extensive flushing of the distribution network and increased water-quality monitoring at the treatment plant and within affected areas”, GWI said.

It said that water quality has since returned to normal, with current monitoring showing clear water being supplied from the treatment facility. Monitoring will continue at increased frequency to ensure that satisfactory water quality is maintained throughout the distribution network, GWI said.
