Cuban shipyard worker stabbed to death at Land of Canaan

Police are investigating the death of a Cuban national who was stabbed during an altercation with a co-worker at a Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, shipyard on Saturday night.

The dead man has been identified as Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, 37. Police said the incident occurred at about 11 pm following an argument between Guillen and a 32-year-old Cuban national. Both men worked at the shipyard.

According to the police, the argument became physical and the other man allegedly stabbed Guillen in the chest. Guillen collapsed in a hallway of the workers’ quarters.

Other workers restrained the suspect and handed him over to the police. Investigators recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Guillen was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
