Police have arrested a businessman following the discovery of suspected cannabis and cocaine at Port Kaituma, while an 18-year-old is in custody after a pistol and ammunition were found in Georgetown. The arrests were made on Monday.
At High Wine Crack, Port Kaituma, police searched a premises in the presence of a 65-year-old businessman and found two plastic bags in a bedroom. One contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis; the other held a whitish, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine. Police said the substances weighed 35 grams and four grams, respectively. The businessman remains in custody.
In the second incident, police on mobile patrol heard what they suspected was a gunshot near Robb and Bourda streets at about 11.30 pm. They said they saw a man running along Bourda Street, pursued him and found a Glock 19 pistol and 13 matching live rounds during a search.
The 18-year-old, of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, remains in custody. Police said investigations into both matters are continuing.
