The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) yesterday responded to a report of a house on fire at Lot 12 Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara.
A release from the GFS said that Water Tender #123 and Water Carrier #35, along with a crew from the Melanie Fire Station under the command of Leading Fireman Hercules, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke issuing from the building and sprang into action to locate and extinguish the fire.
Through their prompt response and coordinated efforts, firefighters successfully contained the blaze to a bedroom, which sustained minor damage. The release said that their quick intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the building, averting what could have been a major blaze.
“Kudos to Leading Fireman Hercules and his team for their swift and decisive action in safeguarding the property and preventing further damage”, the release said.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
