50 graduate from GPHC healthcare programmes

Those who graduated

Fifty healthcare workers on Wednesday graduated from three specialised training programmes offered by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The graduation ceremony, held at the National Cultural Centre, recognised participants who completed the Patient Care Assistant, Operating Room Technician and Orthopaedic Technician programmes.

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony congratulated the graduates and urged them to use their new knowledge and practical skills to improve the delivery of healthcare.

Anthony said that continued training was necessary as the government expanded healthcare infrastructure, technology and specialised services, increasing the demand for skilled workers.

He reminded the graduates that technical competence must be accompanied by compassion, professionalism and respect for patients. The minister also encouraged them to view their graduation as the beginning of further professional development.

The Patient Care Assistant programme trains participants to support nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing direct patient care, while the Operating Room Technician programme prepares workers to assist surgical teams.

The Orthopaedic Technician programme provides specialised training in supporting the treatment and care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

The ministry said the programmes formed part of its efforts with GPHC to expand the country’s pool of trained healthcare workers. A breakdown of the number of graduates from each programme was not provided.
