Appointment system for passport applications from October 1

Persons seeking passport services will be required to book an appointment from October 1, as walk-in applications will no longer be accepted at immigration offices countrywide.

Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford, in a video released by the Guyana Police Force, said appointments can be made through the online portal at pp.gpf.gov.gy.

Applicants will be required to select the immigration office or Government of Guyana Service Centre at which they wish to submit their application and choose an available date and time.

Telford explained that the new arrangement is intended to better manage the flow of applicants and reduce overcrowding and lengthy waiting periods at passport offices.

He said the appointment requirement will apply to persons seeking new passports as well as those applying for renewals.

Applicants are being urged to arrive at the selected location at the appointed time with the documents required for the service being sought. Booking an appointment does not replace the requirement for the applicant to appear in person to submit the application and complete the relevant processing.

Members of the public who require help with the online process may visit an immigration office or a Government of Guyana Service Centre for assistance in scheduling an appointment.

The public has been urged to familiarise itself with the system before it takes effect. Until September 30, passport applications will continue to be processed under the existing arrangements.

Members of the public have long called for such an appointment system.
