The Bath Regional Hospital in Region Five has begun offering dialysis and has treated its first kidney disease patient, according to a statement posted by the hospital.
On its Facebook page the hospital said eligible patients can receive treatment on an outpatient basis and do not have to be admitted to access the service.
It said the new unit is intended to make dialysis more accessible to residents of Region Five and surrounding communities, reducing the need for some patients to travel long distances for treatment. The hospital thanked its healthcare team for its work in establishing the service.
The hospital did not say how many patients the unit can accommodate, how often treatment will be available or how eligible patients can register.
