The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has invited bids for the construction of new markets at Soesdyke Junction, Skeldon and Port Mourant.
According to an invitation for bids, the Soesdyke Junction Market in Region Four has been divided into five lots, while the Skeldon and Port Mourant markets in Region Six have each been divided into six lots.
The ministry did not disclose the estimated cost of any of the projects or provide details on the proposed designs, capacity or construction periods.
Tender documents will be available from today and can be purchased from the ministry’s Accounts Department at Fort Street, Kingston, for a non-refundable fee of $3,000.
Bids must be submitted to the Chairman of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board at the Ministry of Finance, Main and Urquhart streets, Georgetown, no later than 9 am on September 17.
The submissions will be opened at the same time and location in the presence of bidders’ representatives who wish to attend. Late bids will be rejected and returned unopened.
The ministry said bids must remain valid for 120 days from the date of opening.
The tender for the Soesdyke Junction Market comes as preparatory work is underway for a major roundabout intended to link the East Bank Demerara corridor, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport road and the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The Ministry of Public Works recently announced that land near the junction was being cleared for a paved tarmac to temporarily accommodate vendors and operators located along the roundabout’s project alignment. Major works on the roundabout are scheduled to begin on September 9.
