Blanche Duke has celebrated her 102nd birthday, with a team from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security visiting her at the Mercy Home in Vryheid’s Lust to mark the occasion.
In a social media post, the ministry said the visit formed part of its Century Club initiative.
It described Duke as gentle and well-spoken, noting that she retained her appreciation for roses.
Although she now enjoys life at a slower pace, the ministry said her interests still include knitting, word searches and crossword puzzles, while ice cream remains her favourite dessert.
The team extended belated birthday wishes to Duke during the visit.
