The Guyana Police Force recorded 124 reports of domestic and family violence involving girls under the age of 18 between 2020 and 2025, with the highest annual figure being recorded last year.
The figures were provided by Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond in a written response at the last parliament session to a question from opposition Member of Parliament Amanza Walton-Desir.
According to the data, 28 reports were recorded in 2025, more than double the 14 documented in 2022 and 2023. It was also the highest figure for the six-year period, surpassing the 27 reports recorded in 2021.
The police recorded 21 reports in 2020, followed by 27 in 2021. The number declined to 14 in 2022 and remained at that level in 2023 before increasing to 20 in 2024 and 28 last year.
Police Division 4C recorded the largest number over the period, with 23 reports. Nine of those were made in 2024 and another six in 2025. Division 4C accounted for almost one-fifth of all the reports recorded nationally during the six years.
Region Five recorded the next highest total, with 13 reports, including five last year. Region Six and Region Ten each recorded 12 reports, while Region Three and Division 4A each registered 11.
Regions One and Two each recorded nine reports, Division 4B recorded eight, Region Nine seven, Region Seven six and Region Eight three.
In 2025, Divisions 4C and Region Six recorded six reports each, followed by Regions Five and Nine with five each. Region Seven registered three, Region Two two and Division 4B one. No reports were recorded in Regions One, Three, Eight and Ten or Division 4A during that year.
Walrond said the police record reports of domestic and family violence in occurrence books, station diaries, investigative files, domestic violence registers and related case-management systems.
The response did not say how many of the reports resulted in charges or convictions, nor did it provide information on the ages of the girls, their relationship to the alleged perpetrators or the nature of the reported violence.
