Man pleads guilty to attempted murder of wife

Seon Joseph

Seon Joseph yesterday  pleaded guilty to attempting to murder his wife during an incident on July 31, 2023.

Joseph appeared  before Justice Priscilla Haniff at the High Court in Demerara, where he pleaded guilty to the indictment of attempting to commit murder (ATCM).

An alternative count of felonious wounding was also before the court.

The court heard that  on the day in question, Joseph wanted to have sexual intercourse with his wife. The woman refused, telling Joseph that she was not feeling well. Following her refusal, Joseph assaulted her, leaving her with an open fracture to the left side of her head and multiple lacerations.

The woman  was subsequently hospitalised for several days as a result of the injuries.

Joseph’s guilty plea to the attempted murder charge was accepted by the court.

Justice Haniff has set September 30, 2026, for sentencing.
