A 51-year-old man was allegedly tasered and his 20-year-old son punched and kicked during a police intervention in the Soesdyke-Linden area on Saturday, September 19, 2026, according to the family.
Ronald Grant, his wife Becky Grant and their son, Roland Grant, had reportedly travelled to their farm and were returning when the incident occurred.
According to the family, Ronald was being held by police when Roland returned to their vehicle to retrieve an item. They said an axe fell from the vehicle during that moment, after which the situation escalated.
The family alleges that police confronted Roland and punched and kicked him. He was later taken to hospital, where an X-ray reportedly showed no broken bones. However, he complained of pain around his sternum.
The family also alleges that Ronald was tasered by the police and subsequently “blacked out.”
They said his heart rate and blood pressure were elevated during the incident and that he was handled roughly after the Taser was used.
According to the family, Ronald was treated harshly while being removed from the scene and placed into a police vehicle. Relatives described him as being thrown into the vehicle “like garbage.”
The family further alleges that officers shouted at them during the incident.
Kiskadee Watch reviewed footage supplied by the family that appears to show police handling Ronald as he was removed from the scene and placed into the vehicle.
Becky, Ronald’s wife and Roland’s mother, said that she was involved in a confrontation with police while trying to retain a medical document from the hospital.
According to Becky, an officer grabbed the document from her hand. The family was subsequently taken to the Timehri Police Station.
The family has also questioned the circumstances surrounding the traffic enforcement operation.
They said they observed other vehicles, including pickup trucks and 4x4s, travelling with people in their trays and questioned why those vehicles were not stopped.
Following the incident, Kiskadee Watch contacted the Traffic Chief and provided footage of the encounter.
The Traffic Chief said that traffic ranks are not permitted to carry Tasers.
This raised questions about the identity and role of the rank seen with the Taser. Kiskadee Watch also brought the matter to the attention of Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond, who said the allegations were serious and that she would look into them.
The family is seeking answers about the conduct of the ranks involved, the use of the Taser and the treatment of Ronald, Roland and Becky.
