The government has transferred just over 371 acres of state land on the Corentyne to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), but has not disclosed the development planned for the property.
The transfer was made by the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) under Order No. 177 of 2026, published in the Official Gazette.
According to the order, the property comprises four tracts at Plantations Lots 77 and 78 Villages, Corentyne, Berbice.
Two of the tracts, identified as C and D, are situated at Plantation Lot 77 and measure 144.542 acres and 35.276 acres, respectively. The other two, identified as E and F, are at Plantation Lot 78 and measure 51.944 acres and 139.245 acres.
Together, the four tracts amount to 371.007 acres.
The property was transferred to the CH&PA free and clear of claims and liabilities. The order does not state whether the land will be used for house lots, commercial development or another purpose. It also gives no proposed timeframe for its development.
The order was made on August 28 and signed by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh.
The CH&PA has been overseeing a large expansion of government housing schemes across the country, particularly in Regions Three, Four and Six.
