The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development says it will follow up on outstanding payments owed to pathway workers and press contractors to complete projects within stipulated deadlines.
These matters were discussed yesterday when Minister of Local Government Priya Manickchand and Permanent Secretary Miguel Choo-Kang met department heads and other senior personnel to review the ministry’s work.
According to a ministry statement, the discussions focused on accountability, outstanding matters and the timely execution of projects countrywide.
The ministry said it would strengthen coordination with local democratic organs to improve the delivery of services.
Neighbourhood Democratic Councils are also to be pressed to consistently carry out their responsibilities, including garbage collection, fogging and other essential community services.
Manickchand told those at the meeting that the success of projects should be measured by their effect on residents and communities.
“Whatever you do is touching people personally,” she was quoted as saying.
The meeting also discussed improvements to the ministry’s compound to provide a better working environment for employees.
