Miner dies after attack at Toroparo Backdam

Police are investigating the death of Sceon Elias, a 46-year-old miner of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, who was wounded during an incident at Toroparo Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River, on Sunday.

According to the police, Elias was injured at about 5.40 pm during an encounter at Four Miles, Bartica.

Elias was taken to a medical facility at Toroparo, where he was treated for a laceration to his head. He was subsequently transferred to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he succumbed at about 9.30 am on Wednesday.

The suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
