Minister commissions Kumu Health Centre

The Kumu Health Centre

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, participated in the commissioning of the newly constructed Kumu Health Centre in Region Nine.

The new health facility, valued at approximately $20.7 million, is expected to serve a population of approximately 447 residents of Kumu and surrounding areas, a release from the Ministry of Health said.

The facility is equipped with the necessary amenities to provide a range of essential primary healthcare services in a modern, safe and comfortable environment.

Anthony underscored the importance of preventative healthcare and immunisation, particularly among children and adolescents.

“This facility will allow for every child between the ages of nine and 15 to have access to their HPV vaccine,”  Anthony said.

He encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that eligible children receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which plays an important role in preventing HPV-related diseases, including cervical cancer.

Anthony further highlighted opportunities for residents to become directly involved in strengthening healthcare delivery within their community. He disclosed that interested persons can be trained as Community Health Workers (CHWs), providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to support the delivery of essential health services at the community level.

The Kumu Health Centre is expected to support the delivery of services including maternal and child healthcare, immunisation, chronic disease screening and management, health education and promotion, and other primary healthcare interventions, the release said.
