NA man gets time served for damaging ATMs

Azore Joseph, 25, of Angoy’s Avenue, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for damaging ATM machines after he changed his plea to guilty on Thursday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and he was then released as he had served this period on remand.

Joseph had earlier been charged with two counts of  damaging public/commercial infrastructure at the Republic Bank and Scotiabank branches on the Strand.

However, following a plea in mitigation by attorney-at-law Akim Lampkin, Magistrate Michelle Matthias agreed to release Joseph, as he had already served the equivalent time while on remand.

On Sunday, October 26, 2025, Joseph went berserk   and damaged the  two Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and glass doors belonging to Republic Bank, after finding there was no money within.

He proceeded a short distance away along Strand Road, New Amsterdam, where he damaged multiple glass windows and doors owned by Scotiabank, after realizing the ATM machine was nonfunctional,

He was subsequently arrested, charged, and a psychiatric evaluation was ordered, before he was remanded to prison.
