Police are investigating the suspected suicides of a 17-year-old student at Kamarang Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, and a 52-year-old driver at Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara.
According to the police, the teenager was found unresponsive by relatives at her home between 2 am and 3 am on Friday.
She was taken to the Kamarang District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Detectives examined the body and reported observing an impression around the neck but no other visible marks of violence. The body remains at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the 52-year-old man, who reportedly lived alone, was found unresponsive in his Meadow Bank apartment by a neighbour at around 9 am on Saturday.
Police and emergency medical personnel were summoned, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into both deaths are continuing.
