Clearing and grubbing have commenced near the Soesdyke Junction as part of preparations for the construction of a roundabout linking the East Bank Demerara corridor, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport road and the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
In a statement, the Ministry of Public Works said the area is being cleared for the construction of a paved tarmac to accommodate vendors and other operators who are presently located along the project alignment.
The ministry said the relocation site is intended to allow commercial activities to continue while the main construction is underway.
Major works are scheduled to begin on September 9, starting with drainage improvements intended to address longstanding flooding in the nearby Hill Foot area. Public utilities along the project route will also be relocated.
According to the ministry, a service road will be established to maintain traffic to and from the airport during construction.
