A 19-year-old Campbellville resident was shot in his left foot and robbed of two chains valued at $1.6 million on Owen Street, Kitty, on Monday evening, the police said.
The incident occurred at about 7.45 pm while the teenager was on the roadway with several other persons.
According to a police statement, two unidentified men approached the group on an XR motorcycle. The pillion rider, who was armed with a handgun, dismounted and ordered them not to move.
Police said the teenager began running and the gunman discharged several rounds, one of which struck his left foot. After he fell, the gunman took two chains from him.
The suspect then returned to the waiting motorcycle and the two men rode away.
The teenager was taken to a private medical facility, where he was admitted in stable condition.
Police said CCTV cameras had been identified in the area and footage would be reviewed as part of the investigation.
