TSU constable fined $170,000 over traffic offences

Mohamed Amin

A Tactical Services Unit (TSU) rank was on Thursday fined a total of $170,000 after pleading guilty to four traffic offences.

Constable Mohamed Amin appeared before Magistrate Rhondell. Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, where he admitted to dangerous driving, having a tinted motor vehicle, an obscured identification mark and breaching a condition of fitness.

He was fined $50,000 for dangerous driving, with an alternative of two months’ imprisonment, and $40,000 on each of the other three charges, also with alternatives of two months in jail.

The charges arose from an incident on August 22 involving motor car PAP 8030, which Amin was driving.

According to police, ranks stopped and arrested Amin, who was unable to produce a permit for the vehicle’s tinted windows.

The tint and blue lights were removed from the vehicle, with the lights lodged at the police station. The vehicle’s certificate of fitness was subsequently revoked because its identification mark was obscured.
