Letters To The Editor

Did Mr Corbin leave  any final advice for  the party he so dearly loved?

Dear Editor,

Your article “Corbin hailed for coalition-building, decades of public service” was an important tribute. The praise for his coalition-building and his decades of service was well noted.

Tributes tell us what a man did. They rarely tell us what he wanted. It would be enlightening to know whether Mr. Corbin left any final advice for  the party he so dearly loved.

Did he have words about unity, about the discipline of working across party lines, or about the next generation of leaders? Did he think the party was heading in the right direction? Those who sat with him in his final months are best placed to say. If he did leave guidance, his colleagues and family should consider sharing it, so that the party and the public can weigh it.

A man who spent his life building coalitions would surely have had something to say about how to keep them together. Honouring him means more than speeches. It means listening to what he hoped for.

I hope your newspaper will pursue this question with those closest to him.

Sincerely,

Keith Bernard
