Guyanese players Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Nial Smith have been named in a 13-member West Indies Select squad for a four-day warm-up match against Pakistan at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago from July 18 to 21.
Chanderpaul will strengthen the batting group, while fast bowler Smith has been included among several pace options for the match. The fixture will give both players an opportunity to press their claims for further regional and international consideration against high-quality opposition.
Experienced left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican will captain the team, while former West Indies all-rounder Rayad Emrit has been appointed head coach.
The squad is drawn primarily from the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force team that won the recent West Indies Championship.
West Indies players Joshua Da Silva, Kavem Hodge and Anderson Phillip are also included, adding international experience to the squad.
Cephas Cooper, Jyd Goolie, Terrance Hinds, Joshua James, Mbeki Joseph, Ojay Shields and Ryan Bandoo complete the team.
The match will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to adjust to Caribbean conditions, while the selected West Indian players will look to make an impression ahead of future regional and international assignments.
