The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Saturday officially unveiled a new logo as part of a broader modernization and transformation agenda aimed at strengthening governance, improving operational efficiency and enhancing the overall administration of cricket in Guyana.
The announcement was made on Saturday morning, with the Board describing the new logo as more than a visual rebrand, but rather a symbol of a renewed institutional direction focused on modern governance, digital advancement and long-term cricket development. The initiative forms part of a wider programme designed to improve accountability, internal systems, communication and the public image of the organisation.
According to the Board, several elements of the transformation process have already been implemented under the administration led by President Bissoondyal Singh. These include the increased use of technology and artificial intelligence-supported platforms to improve planning, communication, reporting, record-keeping and decision-making across the organisation.
As part of the restructuring process, the GCB has established a dedicated Cricket Operations Department to oversee the planning, coordination and execution of competitions, development programmes and cricket activities across the country. The department is expected to improve coordination between national teams, county competitions, youth programmes, coaching structures and player development initiatives.
The Board has also created a Media Management Department to strengthen communication, public relations, branding and digital engagement. The department will be responsible for improving the flow of information, promoting cricket programmes and maintaining a more professional and consistent communication strategy across official platforms.
Further changes include the introduction of the positions of Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer. The Board said the additions will strengthen administrative oversight, improve departmental coordination and reinforce financial accountability, budgeting, compliance and resource management. Together with the new departments, the positions are intended to create a more transparent, disciplined and efficient governance structure.
The modernization programme will also extend to the county boards in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice. The GCB said the three county bodies will undergo a structured alignment process aimed at ensuring consistency with the Board’s updated administrative, governance and financial systems. The process is expected to include improvements in reporting procedures, record-keeping, communication and development planning while preserving the counties’ important role in grassroots cricket and talent development.
Technology and data management are expected to play a major role in the Board’s future plans. The GCB revealed that it is working towards the creation of a digitized player database that will support talent identification, performance monitoring and player development from the grassroots level through to national representation. The Board believes the initiative will support better decision-making and create a clearer pathway for young cricketers across the country.
Another major component of the transformation agenda is the planned Hinterland Cricket Development Programme. The Board said it will work alongside the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to expand opportunities for young cricketers in hinterland and riverain communities. The programme is intended to improve access to coaching, competition, equipment and long-term development opportunities for players in remote areas.
The GCB highlighted that progress has already been made in this area, noting that since 2021, 18 Indigenous cricketers from hinterland regions have gone on to represent their counties and Guyana. The Board also credited the Essequibo Cricket Board, led by President Deleep Singh, for helping to expand cricket development in communities including Pomeroon, Moruca, Warapoka, Sebai and the North West District.
The Board further pointed to the establishment of seven academies and training hubs in Essequibo and the success of the Under-13 Inter-County Tournament as examples of its ongoing youth development efforts. Similar facilities are expected to be introduced in Demerara and Berbice as resources become available.
At the grassroots level, the GCB continues to roll out its Primary School Cricket Programme under the leadership of former West Indies Test cricketer and current ICC Match Official Reon King. The initiative, which is supported by Republic Bank Ltd., is aimed at introducing cricket to young players while creating a structured pathway for future development.
Looking ahead, the Board also plans to establish a Commercial and Marketing Arm to strengthen sponsorship opportunities, branding, revenue generation and long-term financial sustainability. The initiative is expected to support greater corporate engagement and investment across national, county, youth, women’s, school and community cricket programmes.
The GCB said the new logo represents a commitment to innovation, professionalism, inclusion and transparency, while reflecting the Board’s ambition to build a more modern, technology-driven and development-focused cricket structure for the future.
