$60m sluice completed at Buses Lust

The sluice

A new drainage sluice and outfall have been completed at Buses Lust, East Bank Berbice, at a cost of approximately $60 million, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry said the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority undertook the project following a commitment by Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha during a meeting with residents and farmers. It said the structure is expected to improve the discharge of excess water and reduce flooding of homes and farmland.

The ministry said the work forms part of a wider drainage and irrigation programme along the East Bank Berbice corridor. It stated that earlier works have improved drainage and irrigation services for approximately 10,000 acres of agricultural land.
