The race for Guyana’s 2026 motor racing titles begins this weekend at the South Dakota Circuit, where the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) will stage its opening championship round on September 26–27.

Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday, followed by Sunday’s race programme, with competitors seeking points across the club’s racing classes.

The championship gets underway later than usual after adjustments to the calendar to accommodate the Historic GT3 Challenge series. However, GMR&SC President Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin said registration interest indicates strong participation from drivers and riders.

Roshandin explained that the arrival of the Historic GT3 Challenge series required changes to the club’s usual schedule. Despite the delayed start, he expects competitors to turn out in full support of the championship opener.

The two-day meeting follows Speed Fest, which was held at the same venue earlier this month. Drivers and teams will now shift their attention to collecting points towards the 2026 championship titles.

Admission is $4,000 for adults and $2,000 for children. The club is encouraging motorsport fans and families to attend and support the local competitors.

The 2026 championship is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, One Guyana, GuyOil, Enet, KFC and Castrol.
