School-aged athletes from across Guyana will have an opportunity to strengthen their case for national selection when the Athletics Association of Guyana hosts its Inter-Guyanese Trials on September 27 at the Guyana Defence Force ground.
The event forms part of the AAG’s intensified preparations for the 2027 CARIFTA Games and will be open to athletes under the age of 19.
The Association is using the trials alongside a growing network of mini training hubs to identify and develop promising athletes from different parts of the country. Participants do not need to belong to an athletics club to access the programme.
Young athletes can join the hub nearest to them, receive organised coaching and begin preparing for national trials and possible selection to represent Guyana at CARIFTA 2027.
Niall Stanton and Kenisha Headley will oversee the coaches and coordinate the preparation and development of the athletes involved in the hubs.
The initiative is expected to be especially useful during the school term by giving students another avenue to continue their athletic development while remaining involved in their academic programmes.
While building towards CARIFTA, the AAG is also preparing an Under-23 team for the South American Games in Argentina from October 16–19, 2026. The trip is intended to give the athletes valuable experience against regional opposition at the international level.
The AAG Executive is also planning for the Inter-Guyanese Games and other international events while putting together its competition calendar for the coming season.
Through these programmes, the Association wants to create a clear pathway from grassroots athletics to structured training, national trials and international representation.
The AAG has invited young athletes from across Guyana to become involved as it continues building the country’s next generation of track and field talent.
