Western Tigers enter the FIFA international break third in the GFF Elite League Season Eight standings after Michael Oie scored twice in a commanding 4–0 victory over Guyana Police Force on Sunday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
The result lifted Tigers to six points from three matches, three behind leaders Guyana Defence Force and second-placed Slingerz. The league will pause for the international break, which is scheduled to run until October 6.
Sunday’s victory followed an eventful Saturday at the same venue, where Julius Hamilton’s first-half hat-trick powered Anns Grove United to a 4–1 win over Den Amstel, while Tyrice Dennis scored all three goals in Santos’ 3–1 victory over Camptown.
Mark Jhalu gave Western Tigers the lead in the 13th minute against Police, providing the only goal of the opening half. Tigers then took control of the scoreline after the interval, with Oie doubling their advantage in the 51st minute.
Kevon Woodley added a third in the 65th before Oie completed his brace in the 76th, sealing Tigers’ second win in three outings. They have now scored eight goals and conceded twice, giving them a goal difference of plus six.
Police suffered their second defeat in three matches and sit seventh on three points, with two goals scored and six conceded.
Tigers’ Hakeem Legall and Cecil Jackman received yellow cards in the 28th and 68th minutes, respectively, while Police’s Nicholas McArthur was cautioned in the 33rd and Sealon Sue in the 63rd.
On Saturday, Hamilton needed just 33 minutes to complete his hat-trick as Anns Grove overwhelmed Den Amstel before half-time.
He opened the scoring in the sixth minute, with Yohance Francis adding a second a minute later. Hamilton struck again in the 19th minute before converting a penalty in the 33rd to send Anns Grove into the interval with a 4–0 lead.
Cleavon Murray pulled one back for Den Amstel from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, but Ann’s Grove had already done enough to secure their first victory of the campaign.
The result placed Anns Grove fifth with three points from three matches. They have scored five goals and conceded four. Den Amstel, whose Kelon Nelson was booked in the 38th minute, remain ninth with three points from four games after suffering their third defeat. They have scored four times and conceded 13.
Dennis was the standout performer in Saturday’s other fixture, opening the scoring for Santos in the 36th minute against Camptown.
Both his second goal and Marlon Bethel’s strike for Camptown were recorded in the 69th minute, leaving Santos 2–1 ahead. Dennis completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute to secure the points.
Camptown finished with 10 players after Shomar Koulen received a second yellow card in the ninth minute of stoppage time, having first been cautioned four minutes earlier.
Otto Jones and Lonsdale George were also booked for Camptown, while Santos’ Jamol Williams, Kymani Sealey and Dennis received cautions.
Santos sit fourth with six points from three games, behind Western Tigers on goal difference. They have scored five goals and conceded six. Camptown remain bottom without a point after three defeats, with three goals scored and 11 conceded.
At the top, Guyana Defence Force and Slingerz both hold perfect records of three wins from three matches and have yet to concede. GDF lead on goal difference with 12 goals scored, compared with Slingerz’s eight.
Fruta Conquerors occupy sixth place with three points from three matches, having scored three goals and conceded four. Monedderlust are eighth with three points from two outings, with two goals scored and six conceded, as the competition heads into its temporary pause.
