The Linden Electricity Company Inc (LECI) has told customers on the Mackenzie shore who are behind on their bills that it will carry out disconnections tomorrow and Wednesday.
In a notice dated September 22, the company said its monthly disconnection exercise would take place on September 29 and 30. It asked affected customers to settle their arrears by today. Payments can be made through MMG+, SurePay or at LECI’s commercial office, the notice said.
LECI said customers whose supply is disconnected would have to pay their outstanding bills and a reconnection fee of $5,000 plus 14% VAT. It said reconnection would be guaranteed within 72 hours after the arrears and fee are paid.
The notice comes amid continuing complaints about the reliability of Linden’s electricity supply. In August, the town faced scheduled power cuts after demand reached a reported peak of 15.1 megawatts while Bosai’s generation facility was producing approximately 14.1 megawatts. Bosai subsequently agreed to add generating capacity to the Linden system.
