Ali, Panama president discuss bilateral ties

President Irfaan Ali held talks with Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, according to the Office of the President.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the office said the two leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and Panama’s support for Guyana’s nominee for United Nations Secretary-General, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett. It gave no details of any commitments arising from the meeting.

Ali was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd, Rodrigues-Birkett, who is Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Deputy Permanent Representative Trishala Persaud.
